Lem Barney picks Week 9

11/7/2009

THIS WEEK’S HALL OF FAMER: Lem Barney, Class of 1992
Lem Barney was a mainstay of the Detroit Lions defense for 11 seasons from 1967-1977. He made an immediate impact with the team during a memorable rookie season that earned him Defensive Rookie of the Year honors. A seven-time Pro Bowl selection, Barney intercepted 56 career passes and also starred as a punt and kickoff return man for the Lions.

He still resides in the Detroit area and currently serves as the Director of Positions Recruitment & Relations for Sinai Grace Hospitals. Away from work he remains an avid Lions fans and, in his own words, will remain so “from here to eternity.” On Nov. 22, he will be recognized as part of the charter class of the Pride of the Lions, a new permanent display at Ford Field honoring the greatest players in team history.

Lem’s “Hall of Fame” picks for Week 9

Bronzed Bust
Detroit at Seattle – Even though I’m taking Seattle in this one, I hope the Lions prove me wrong. Winning this game on the road would be a big boost to their season. They’ll show they’re learning to play together in all facets of the game – offense, defense, and special teams. If they prove me wrong this weekend, they’ll be better moving forward for the rest of the season.

Pittsburgh at Denver – The Steelers have a great coordinator in Dick LeBeau who is up for the Hall of Fame this year. All he knows is football, 52 years involved in the game. I’m going with the team in the gold uniforms, the Steelers.

Hall of Fame Ring
Washington at Atlanta – Again, this is a game that a team can prove me wrong. The Redskins are going through a tough season right now and have an ominous task of heading into Atlanta and trying to beat the Falcons. Hopefully, for their sake, they prove me wrong but I don’t think so. I’m picking Atlanta.

Here’s who else I think will win in Week 9 around the National Football League.

Ravens will continue on a roll. Baltimore will win at Cincinnati
Colts over Houston
Green Bay will win at Tampa
The Bears at home over the Cardinals
Jacksonville over Kansas City
The Patriots will beat Miami
The Saints are hot. I like New Orleans against Carolina
49ers over Tennessee
Giants will win at home versus the Chargers
I’m taking the Cowboys over the Eagles
