The Professional Football Writers of America (PFWA) will present its prestigious Dick McCann Memorial Award to Peter King of Sports Illustrated during the 2009 Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival.
King joined Sports Illustrated in 1989 as a staff writer after spending 10 years as an award-winning newspaper journalist with the Cincinnati Enquirer and Newsday in New York. He earned a B.A. in journalism from Ohio University in 1979.
"To stand alongside the legends of pro football journalism is the biggest honor of my career. I'm humbled by this recognition from my peers," commented King.
Today, King serves as Sports Illustrated’s primary NFL expert and is regarded as one of the premier NFL writers in the country. He also contributes to SI.com including his popular “Monday Morning Quarterback” column.
In addition, he has served as an on-air reporter for ABC’s Monday Night Football, NBC’s Football Night in America, CNN’s NFL Preview, and as managing editor for HBO’s award-winning “Inside the NFL” show. He hosts a show on Sirius NFL Radio.
King, the winner of two Associated Press Sports Editors awards for excellence in sports journalism, has also written five books.

King will receive the McCann Award at the Enshrinees Dinner on Friday, August 7. That event is where the Class of 2009 – Bob Hayes, Randall McDaniel, Bruce Smith, Derrick Thomas, Ralph Wilson, Jr., and Rod Woodson – will receive their Hall of Fame jackets.
