Workshop Objectives
Acquire an appreciation for the wealth of information museums have to offer the public and understand how the integration of the museum experience with classroom studies can build a bridge between education and student interest.
Recognize the impact America's love of sports has had on the human experience.
Identify the educational resources currently available from the Pro Football Hall of Fame museum as tools to enhance student learning.
Adapt lessons from the Hall of Fame's Teacher Resource Guide to meet the needs of individual teachers' classrooms.
Produce additional lessons to share with other workshop participants and to be considered for inclusion in the Hall of Fame's Teacher Resource Guide.
Write an Implementation Plan.
Instructors
Kristy Jones & Jami Cutlip, Ashland University Adjunct Professors.
Both instructors are National Board Certified Teachers and members of the Pro Football Hall of Fame's Educational Advisory Panel.
This workshop seeks to share innovative, engaging, and challenging lesson plans with K-12 teachers of all disciplines. Lessons shared in the workshop can be used independently of, or, in conjunction with, a trip to the Pro Football Hall of Fame museum.
Workshop participants received a copy of the Teacher Resource Guide which boasts more than 100 lesson plans (referenced to national standards for use by teachers throughout the country) covering subjects ranging from language arts, family and consumer sciences/nutrition, math, science, social studies, the arts, technology and physical education.
During the workshop, participants learned about the history of the Hall of Fame-northeast Ohio's most beloved museum-and its many educational resources as a museum including print, non-print, archives, distance learning, and, special programs such as the Black History Seminar.
About the Instructors
Jami Cutlip, M.A., is an 18 year classroom veteran and National Board Certified Teacher (AYA/ELA 1999). She serves as English Department Chair at Crestwood High School in Mantua, OH.
Kristy Jones, M.A. is a 31 year classroom veteran, National Board Certified Teacher (EAYA/CTE 2001)and National Certified Family Life Educator. She serves as the Career and Technical Education Department Chair at Crestwood High School in Mantua, OH.
As adjunct professors for Ashland University, Jami and Kristy have been offering workshops for K-12 educators for the past six years.
