Top 20 - start of 2006

02/22/2006

Twenty-eight players who were active during the National Football League’s 2005 regular season rank among the all-time league leaders in four main statistical categories. That group includes four players who entered the Pro Football Hall of Fame's Top 20 charts of career leaders in passing, receiving, rushing, and scoring during this past year, the NFL’s 86th season.

Marvin Harrison leads all active receivers with 927 career receptions.
In addition, four of the Top 20 all-time leaders in career combined net yards, all but one of whom were ranked in other Top 20 lists, were active during the season. Six current head coaches rank among the league’s all-time leaders in coaching victories as well.

Each week during the NFL’s regular season, the Pro Football Hall of Fame updated the Top Twenty career leaders in passing, receiving, rushing and scoring. The statistical lists are published on the Hall of Fame's website (Profootballhof.com). The 2005 NFL Season marked the tenth straight year the lists were updated weekly on the Hall’s website.

The Hall of Fame’s Top Twenty rankings differ slightly from other similar lists in that statistics from the All-America Football Conference (1946-1949) are included. However, there are only three players – all members of the Pro Football Hall of Fame - who played in the AAFC and currently hold a Top Twenty ranking: Otto Graham (passing), Joe “The Jet” Perry (rushing), and Lou “The Toe” Groza (scoring).
