George Blanda

John Carney

Brett Favre

A long list of players have competed in the National Football League at age 40 or older. The group includes a number of Pro Football Hall of Fame members led by George Blanda who retired just shy of his 49th birthday. Currently seven active players in 2009 are age 40 or older. That list grew recently when Brett Favre turned 40 on Oct. 10. The day following his birthday, he became the 12th quarterback in the Super Bowl era to start a NFL game at 40 or older. He led the Minnesota Vikings to a 38-10 win for his first 5-0 start of his career. Linebacker Junior Seau joined the Patriots in Week 6 and played in the team's 59-0 rout over the Tennessee Titans. John Kasay of the Carolina Panthers is the most recent player added to the list. He celebrated his 40th birthday on Oct. 27, 2009.
