HOF Artifact of the Week

Helmet600

This week's artifact is the helmet worn by Billy Howton of the Dallas Cowboys during the 1960s. This is the original style of helmet worn by the Cowboys when the franchise began in 1960.

Howton was a four time Pro Bowler and two time All Pro. He led the NFL in receiving yards as Rookie in 1952 playing for the Green Bay Packers. He was on the first Cowboys team in 1960. In 1963 he surpassed Don Hutson for most receiving yards in a career (7,991). Raymond Berry would break Howton’s record in 1966.
