It’s not every day that fans touring the Pro Football Hall of Fame get a chance to talk with a Hall of Famer live and in person. But, that’s exactly what happened for a few surprised visitors as they crossed paths with newly elected tackle Willie Roaf on Monday.

Roaf, one of the few players in NFL history to be voted to two NFL All-Decade Teams, arrived in Canton on Sunday night along with his sister and his assistant. They spent Monday learning the lay of the land in preparation for his Aug. 4 enshrinement. Roaf took time before meeting with staff to receive a personal tour of the museum given by President/Executive Director Steve Perry. He was especially pleased to see a display that featured many mementos from his career that he recently donated to the Hall of Fame.

He shared during his visit that this was not his first time to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He recalled coming to the Hall as a child and then last toured in 1989 when his Louisiana Tech football team traveled here to take on the University of Akron. Roaf also played in two Hall of Fame Games, one with the New Orleans Saints and one with the Kansas City Chiefs but did not get the opportunity to see the Hall of Fame during those trips.

Roaf is the fifth member of the Class of 2012 to travel to Canton to do a site visit in preparation of August’s Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival.
