Manning’s jersey & football from record day

09/11/2013

The jersey worn by Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning and the ball he threw when he connected on his record-tying seventh touchdown pass against the Baltimore Ravens during the NFL’s opening night kickoff game on Sept. 5, 2013 is now a part of the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s permanent collection. The mementos arrived at the Hall of Fame on Monday afternoon.

The four-time NFL Most Valuable Player’s effort made him the sixth player in history, and the first in the post-merger era, to accomplish the feat. Manning, who completed 27 of 42 passes for 462 yards in the opener, joined Hall of Fame quarterback Y.A. Tittle as the only passers to accomplish the feat without throwing an interception. Manning’s historic effort led the Broncos to an impressive 49-27 victory over the defending Super Bowl champions.

The Hall of Fame houses many artifacts relating to Manning. Of note is the Indianapolis Colts jersey he wore during his rookie season in 1998 when he broke every significant league rookie passing record; and his complete uniform from his 2008 MVP season.
