Hall to host NFL Football Officiating Academy

05/14/2014

The Pro Football Hall of Fame will host a Football Officiating Academy (FOA) beginning June 11, 2014. The FOA is a grassroots program operated by the National Football League designed to train and develop youth officials. The NFL conducts several of these academies annually around the country. Other academies will take place this summer in Atlanta, Brooklyn, Detroit, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C.

The mission of the FOA is to broaden the pool of officials nationally, while inspiring elevated awareness of officiating. Furthermore, the FOA encourages participants to develop strong social skills through programs focused on building officiating knowledge and character development.

The eight-week program begins by providing applicants with video instruction, rule books and study guides. The weekly classes eventually cover proper officiating techniques and on-field instruction of specific movements and mechanics.

The program will conclude with a special graduation ceremony at the NFL/Hall of Fame Game on Aug. 3 where the New York Giants and Buffalo Bills will kick off the NFL’s preseason.
