1920 Meeting Minutes

History Published on : 1/1/2005

Though professional football dates back to the late 19th century, the National Football League began in 1920 when a group of men met in Canton, Ohio in a Hupmobile showroom of Ralph Hay, the owner of the hometown Bulldogs.  In attendance was the legendary George Halas.

The result of the meeting was the formation of the American Professional Football Association (APFA) and later renamed the NFL in 1922.
