Ace Parker's shoulder pads

Clarence (Ace) Parker took an unusual path to the gridiron in the late 1930's.  His true ambition for professional sports was on the baseball diamond and he signed with the Philadelphia Athletics in 1937. Following the season he obtained permission to give pro football a try and joined the Brooklyn Dodgers of the NFL.

Parker played seven seasons, six with the Dodgers (who merged with the Boston Yanks in 1945) in the NFL and one with the New York Yankees of the rival All-America Football Conference before hanging up his cleats for good.

These are the shoulder pads worn by Ace Parker in the 1930s and are a part of the Hall of Fame's permanent collection.
