The National Football League announced on Tuesday that the Chicago Bears and St. Louis Rams will play in the 2011 NFL/Hall of Fame Game in Canton, OH on Sunday, Aug. 7. The game will be televised nationally by NBC with kickoff set for 8 p.m. ET.
Tickets to the game played in Fawcett Stadium are on sale now (right). Ticket prices range from $50 to $70. In the event the 2011 NFL/Hall of Fame Game is not played as scheduled, the Pro Football Hall of Fame will offer full refunds on game tickets.
This summer’s game marks the fifth time the Bears have played in the Hall of Fame Game. They will travel to Canton in August with a perfect 4-0 record in the Hall of Fame Game series. Chicago had wins over the Dallas Cowboys (1968), New York Jets (1977), Cleveland Browns (1990), and Miami Dolphins (2005).
The Rams own a 2-1 record in the Hall of Fame Game. They defeated the Houston Oilers in 1971 and the Dolphins in 2001. The team’s lone loss came in 1988 to the Cincinnati Bengals.
Chicago and St. Louis will take the field one day after the newest class of enshrinees – Richard Dent, Marshall Faulk, Chris Hanburger, Les Richter, Ed Sabol, Deion Sanders, and Shannon Sharpe – are formally enshrined into the Hall of Fame during ceremonies held at Fawcett Stadium on Saturday, Aug. 6.
No team is more represented in the Hall of Fame than the Bears. Dent will become the 27th long-time member of the franchise to be enshrined. He amassed most of his 137.5 career sacks as a member of the Bears from 1983-1993, 1995. Eight times he registered double-digit sack totals with Chicago.
Faulk and Richter are the 14th and 15th representatives of the Rams franchise (Cleveland/Los Angeles/St. Louis) to be elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Faulk, who began his career with the Indianapolis Colts, was traded to the Rams in 1999. He set a then-record for yards from scrimmage during his first season in St. Louis and was named the NFL’s MVP the following year. The Rams in 1952, then located in Los Angeles, traded 11 players to obtain the rights to Richter. He was voted to eight straight Pro Bowls at linebacker.
