Fact or Fiction? The Seahawks once had four pick-sixes in same game.

 FACT!!!

Yes, this is fact. Just ask a trio of quarterbacks for the Kansas City Chiefs who on Nov. 4, 1984 were victimized by an aggressive Seattle Seahawks secondary that racked up a NFL record 325 yards on six interception returns. Included in that total were a record four interceptions returned for scores as Seattle thumped Kansas City 45-0.

Right cornerback Dave Brown (pictured above) started the onslaught when he picked off Bill Kenney and raced 90 yards early in the second quarter. On the ensuing drive, it was left cornerback Keith Simpson’s turn as he stepped in front of Kenney’s pass and ran it back 76 yards and the Seahawks were rolling.

Kansas City turned the quarterbacking reins over to Todd Blackledge but their fortunes did not turn. Early in the second half with the Seahawks owning a commanding 31-0 lead, Brown added his second pick-six of the game with a 58-yard return of a Blackledge pass intended for Chiefs’ receiver Stephone Paige.

Late in the game, with Kenney and Blackledge watching from the sidelines, third-stringer Sandy Osiecki was the Seahawks last victim. Inside two minutes to play, strong safety Kenny Easley picked him off and covered 58 yards for the record-setting interception return.

Nine times, a NFL team has recorded three pick-sixes in the same game. Four of those occurrences have come since the 1970 merger and the last team to do so was the Minnesota Vikings against the New York Giants in 2007.

For the record, the only other team in NFL history other than Seattle to record more than 300 yards on interception returns in a single game was the Los Angeles Rams who had 314 yards against the San Francisco 49ers on Oct. 18, 1964.
