NASA Astronauts touchdown at HOF

TOP: Hall of Fame President/Executive Director Steve Perry (center) accepts mementos from NASA Astronauts Rex Walheim (left) and Leland Melvin (right) on Thursday, April 10. The pair of astronauts returned to Earth aboard Space Shuttle Atlantis on February 20 following a 13-day mission to space.

Melvin played wide receiver on the University of Richmond football team from 1982-85 and was chosen by the Detroit Lions in the 11th round of the 1986 NFL Draft. An injury sustained during training camp ended his professional football career but opened the door for the beginning of his career as an astronaut.

BOTTOM: Melvin and Walheim surprised a group of school children from Summit Academy in nearby Akron, Ohio with a video of their flight and answered questions from the students.
