The Vince Lombardi Trophy that will be awarded to either the Denver Broncos or Seattle Seahawks at MetLife Stadium on Feb. 2 left Canton, Ohio this morning where it has been on display throughout the 2013 NFL Season.

David Baker, the new President of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, removed the Vince Lombardi Trophy from display in the Hall of Fame’s Lamar Hunt Super Bowl Gallery so it could be shipped to New York. Baker then immediately placed the Vince Lombardi Trophy for Super Bowl XLIX on exhibit where it will remain until next year’s Super Bowl.

“In two weeks at Super Bowl XLVIII someone will hoist this high above their head and it will be the greatest symbol of excellence, I believe, we have in our country,” Baker shared with the dozens of fans who gathered near the trophy. “It will be the greatest symbol of teamwork; it’ll be the greatest symbol of courage and character.

“The players will get to hoist this one. This one goes to the winner,” he continued. “But the Lombardi Trophy really belongs to the fans, the fans who love the game.”
