Peyton Manning has put up some of the most impressive passing statistics of any NFL quarterback in his first five seasons. If this year is any indication, the best may be still to come for Manning. He is on pace for a career year in 2003.

Manning's success has caught the eye of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, especially when he rewrote history during Week 4 of the season when Manning recorded his third "perfect game."

He completed 20 of 25 passes for 314 yards and became the first quarterback in nearly a decade to throw six TDs in a game as the Indianapolis Colts routed the New Orleans Saints, 55-21.

A "perfect game" is credited to any player who hits the top of the passer rating chart. A player cannot achieve higher than a 158.3 rating according to the system. No quarterback, with a minimum of 20 pass attempts in a game, has achieved as many "perfect games" as Manning since the passer rating system was implemented in 1973.

Jason Aikens, the Hall's collections coordinator, holds the jersey worn by Manning while setting rookie passing records in 1998.

The Hall of Fame instantly contacted the Colts to request a piece of the history. Indianapolis owner Jim Irsay promptly had the jersey Manning wore in the game against the Saints shipped to the Hall in Canton. The memento is the second jersey of Manning's to find a permanent home in the Hall's collection. A jersey he wore during his rookie season in 1998 is also among the treasured mementos in the Hall's archives. Peyton, the son of former NFL quarterback Archie Manning, had an instant impact in the NFL when as a rookie in 1998, he established nearly every rookie passing record including attemtps, yards, completions and touchdowns.

Then, in 2000, Manning entered the Pro Football Hall of Fame's Top 20 passer ranking faster than any quarterback in history - in just his third season.   Thus far this year, Manning has completed 294 of 441 passes for 3,383 yards, 23 TDs, and 9 interceptions to climb closer to the top of the all-time passer rating charts. He started the 2003 NFL season as the game's eighth ranked passer and continues to climb the the list of top rated passers.
