Pro Football Hall of Fame Board of Trustees Name New Executive Officers

The Pro Football Hall of Fame Board of Trustees has announced the election of Tom Schervish as its new board chairman and Ted Boyd as vice chairman and Gary Smith to a newly created position of assistant treasurer.  All three have served as trustees for the Hall of Fame since 2002.  Schervish replaces Ron Dougherty who has served as chairman since 2006 and Boyd replaces Schervish who served as vice chairman since 2006. 

“It has been an honor to serve as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Pro Football Hall of Fame over the last three years,” stated Dougherty.  “During that time, Tom Schervish worked closely with me as Vice Chairman of the Board and is well prepared to serve as Chairman of one of the most important institutions in this community.”

Schervish, a native of Detroit, Michigan, and a graduate of the University of Detroit, is the Owner and President of Stark Management Services.  He is also affiliated with numerous other businesses including Academy Plaids, Brewster Dairy, Center Ice Sports, and Ohio Legacy Bank.

Active in civic and charitable organizations in the Canton/Stark County community, Schervish serves on several boards and various committees for such organizations as Canton Tomorrow, Inc., the Downtown Canton Land Bank Foundation, and Stark County Citizens Council for Non-Violence, and the Stark Community Foundation.  In 2004 he was named the Community Honoree by the Canton Negro Oldtimers.  Schervish is also a past General Chairman for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Festival as well as a former member of the board of trustees of Walsh University, Canton Country Day School, United Way, Stark Development Board, and Greater Canton Chamber of Commerce.
 
Tom and his wife Angela live in Canton and are the parents of two children, Tom and Amanda.

Boyd is a longtime Canton resident and Chairman of First Communications.  He received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Bethany College and a Juris Doctorate Degree from Cleveland State University.  Well known for his community involvement, Boyd is active in numerous civic and charitable organizations.  He currently serves as a trustee of Stark Development Board, Aultman Health Foundation, Capital Campaigns Committee, Stark Education Partnership, Northeast Ohio Council on Higher Education, and the Stark County Port Authority.

Gary Smith

Boyd and his wife Donna are the parents of three sons, William, Jabez, and Benjamin.

Smith, CEO of Signa StorTech Systems, Inc. is the former President and CEO of both High Plains Corporation, and Hercules Engines.

A graduate of St. Cloud State University, Smith entered the school on a football and track scholarship, but also excelled as a wrestler, winning three NIC conference championships and the 1963 and 1964 NAIA 191-pound championships.  In 1964 he competed in the Final Olympic Trials in New York City, placing fourth. 

An active member of his community, Smith has served on the boards of the Y.M.C.A., United Way, Development Corporation, and Junior Achievement and was chairman of the Buckeye Council of the Boy Scouts of America.  He also served as the Chairman of the Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce and has been an active member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Committee.  Smith and his wife Jan have four children.

The election of Schervish, Boyd and Smith was formalized during the Pro Football Hall of Fame Board of Trustees annual meeting held last month.  Other executive committee members who were reelected to their positions include Treasurer Roger Bettis and Secretary Dave Robinson.
