Rackers celebrates after connecting on his record-breaking 40th field goal of the season.

Rackers booted his record 40th field goal, a 42-yarder in the fourth quarter, against the Indianapolis Colts in the season finale on Sunday January 1, 2006. The previous record of 39 was shared by Miami’s Olindo Mare (1999) and St. Louis’ Jeff Wilkins (2003). In 2005, Rackers converted 40 of 42 field goal attempts and kicked 20 extra points for a career-high 140 points.

This marks the second straight season that the Cardinals have donated mementos from Rackers’s exploits to the Hall of Fame. Last season, the museum acquired the shoes that the place-kicker wore on October 24, 2004 when he became just the second player in history to kick three 50-yard field goals in a game.

Rackers’s shoes and ball join many other items related the Cardinals that are housed in the Hall of Fame’s collection. Among some of the more notable mementos are the complete uniforms of Cardinals’ Hall of Famers Dan Dierdorf and Larry Wilson; the 1976 jersey worn by Terry Metcalf, and the 1967 Pro Bowl helmet of Hall of Fame tight end Jackie Smith.
