{GALLERY}The Washington Redskins press conference on Wednesday included a special presentation when Robert Griffin III handed over the jersey and shoes he wore two days earlier to the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s collections curator.

Griffin set a new NFL rookie quarterback record for rushing yards in a season while leading the Redskins to an important 17-16 win over the New York Giants on Monday night. The victory was critical to Washington’s playoff hopes.

RGIII added 72 yards on the ground in the game. His season total of 714 yards, which ranks second on the team, has been amassed on 105 carries and he’s scored six touchdowns. Griffin surpassed the previous mark set by Cam Newton of the Carolina Panthers last season.

The jersey and shoes will be placed on exhibit inside the Pro Football Today Gallery. Last summer, Griffin stood in that gallery during a tour of the Hall of Fame as part of the NFL’s rookie symposium and was told by staff that the Hall would come calling if the players made history in the upcoming season.
