A memento from Jason Hanson's milestone in Week 2 will be added to the Pro Football Hall of Fame's collection that already includes memorabilia from the Detroit Lions kicker.
Hanson set the NFL's record for most career games played with one team. He appeared in his 297th game for the Lions during the team's 48-3 win over the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, Sept. 18, 2011. It broke the marked held by Hall of Fame offensive lineman Bruce Matthews
who appeared in 296 games for the Houston Oiler/Tennessee Oilers/Tennessee Titans.
"To have played more games with one team than any other player in the 92-year history of the National Football League is truly a remarkable achievement and one record that I honestly believe will never be broken," commented the Lions President Tom Lewand.
Hanson added 12 points to his career total during the Week 2 matchup. His extra point following Detroit's first touchdown of the game also marked the 1,900th point of his career. He is just the seventh player in league history to reach that point total.
"We are so pleased to add this football to our exhibits as it represents another great moment in the history of the game," stated Joe Horrigan, the Pro Football Hall of Fame's Vice President – Communications/Exhibits. "We thank Jason and the Lions organization for sending the football so quickly. It's always exciting for our visitors to see a memento like this in Canton just days after the record was set."
The football from that kick has been placed on display in the Pro Football Today Gallery
Already in the Hall's possession are the shoes, uniform, and football that Hanson kicked in Week 15 of the 2008 NFL Season to set the league record for career 50-yard field goals. Through last week's action, Hanson now has 45 field goals from 50 or more yards.
"Jason is the embodiment of everything that is right about our game. Since the day we drafted him in 1992, he has always represented our organization with an unparalleled combination of integrity, character, competitiveness and excellence both on and off the field," shared Lewand.
