Here are recaps of several games over the years between the Chiefs and Broncos.
October 30, 1960 – DALLAS 17, Denver 14
In the first meeting ever between the two teams, Texans running back Abner Haynes rushed for 67 of his 101 yards in the first half. He also added 96 yards on seven receptions in the game as Dallas snapped a three-game losing streak.
October 11, 1964 – DENVER 33, Kansas City 27
The Broncos beat the Chiefs for the first time as Lionel Taylor had two TD receptions and halfback Charley Mitchell scored a pair of touchdowns (one rushing; one receiving). Kansas City’s Chris Burford and Fred Arbanas each had more than 100 yards receiving.
November 18, 1974 – Kansas City 42, DENVER 34
Both teams scored five TDs and combined for 896 yards in the highest scoring Monday Night Football game ever up to that point. The Chiefs eliminated Denver from any hopes of a division title despite the 445 yards passing by Broncos’ QB Charley Johnson.
December 18, 1983 – KANSAS CITY 48, Denver 17
Bill Kenney managed to throw a pair of touchdown passes despite a wind chill of 30-below-zero at Arrowhead Stadium. Lucious Smith intercepted a John Elway pass and returned it 58 yards for a TD on the third play of the game. RB Theotis Brown rushed for 2 TDs for the Chiefs while Gerald Willhite scored both of Denver’s touchdowns.
January 4, 1998 (1997 AFC Divisional Playoff Game) – Denver 14, KANSAS CITY 10
Terrell Davis rushed for 102 yards and scored both of Denver’s touchdowns on one-yard runs as the Broncos knocked the top-seeded Chiefs out of the post-season. Kansas City’s last-ditch effort on fourth down failed when cornerback Darrien Gordon knocked down Elvis Grbac’s pass in the end zone with 19 seconds to play. The game marked the final game of Marcus Allen’s Hall of Fame career.
October 20, 2002 – Denver 37, KANSAS CITY 34 (OT)

Broncos QB Brian Griese threw for a career high 376 yards to help Denver overcome a 14-point deficit in the fourth quarter. Kicker Jason Elam sealed the win with a 25-yard field goal at 2:57 of the sudden death period. Priest Holmes gained 113 yards on the ground and scored three touchdowns for the Chiefs.
