Class of 2010 to be decided today

02/05/2010

A selection process that began last August will come to completion Saturday afternoon at the Super Bowl Media Center in Ft. Lauderdale. The Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Selection Committee, comprised of 44 members of the media, is in session to elect the Hall of Fame’s Class of 2010.

Headlining the group of finalists under consideration are the National Football League’s all-time leading receiver and rusher, Jerry Rice and Emmitt Smith. [2010 finalists]

For the first time ever, the announcement press conference will come in the fashion of a two-hour special on NFL Network. “The Hall of Fame Class of 2010 Announcement Show” airs live at 5:00 p.m. Portions of the program including the announcement of the class will also be streamed live on NFL.com.

Those newly elected members on hand in South Florida will join the show live while others will be interviewed via phone.

Then, the group of new electees will be put to work on Sunday. The NFL has announced that the Class of 2010 will be on field at Super Bowl XLIV for the pre-game coin toss. The coin they will flip has made its way to Sun Life Stadium via the International Space Station and Canton, Ohio (see related story: NASA presents Super Bowl coin).

Please do the right thing and vote Don Coryell into the HOF! You can't ignore his contributions to the game of football. Defenese was changed forever thanks to his offenses. Offense was changed forever thanks to his mind. You can't ignore that, it's what the HOF is about.

Floyd Little / Dick LeBeau - it's about time for both! Also, advance congrats to Emmitt Smith (my son's favorite player) and Jerry Rice.

The Hall of Shame has become too political, and just another popularity contest. How can Floyd Little be considered before Johnny Robinson? Johnny was a 6 time Hall finalist and a All-AFL first team player who played in two Super Bowls. Floyd had 4 or 5 decent years. I would put him in the Larry Brown (Redskins) class of good player but not Hall worthy. Jerry Kramer a 10 time Hall finalist should have been on the Sr. list as well. Same situation last year with Bob Hayes getting in before Chuck Howley, what a joke!!!! Come on voters do your homework and vote some worthy candidates in before it's too late.

Look up Floyd Little's stats if you think he doesn't deserve to be in the HOF. Then compare those to another HOFer who played the same position about the same time..Gale Sayers. Little compares as well or in some stats even better than Sayers. Just because Floyd doesn't have any super bowl rings or even a playoff appearance (like Sayers) he shouldn't be disqualified in being selected for 2010.

Floyd Little is way overdue for induction. His dedication to Denver during their initial growth, with little on field support, displays his dedication to family, friends and society in general. His outstanding football achievements are only a small portion of his total qualifications to represent with dignity and class the NFL HOF. As a college teammate of his, and others already inducted, I have followed their lives with much interest and have observed their contributions to society since graduation. He has done as much and more in many more areas of life than many others already inducted. Many of our teammates as well as people from all of lifes arenas who have had the pleasure to know Floyd would be happy to attest to that fact. The web site "littleinthehalloffame.com shows only some of those people. Respectfully Submitted, Joe R.

Floyd was my idol as a young child. He was THEE face, THEE original franchise player of the Broncos. I remember meeting him at a signing at an appliance store. Wow..it was a memorabile experience. I just wished I knew what happened to the darn pic he signed for me! All my little league jerseys beared #44! He should of been in the Hall of Fame 20 yrs ago
