The Class of 2019 Selection Process to Begin

The Class of 2018 was enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Saturday, August 4. The selection process for the Class of 2019 is already underway and the first major step begins on Friday, August 17 when one Senior Finalist is selected, followed by two Contributor finalists on Thursday, August 23.

Here are the lists of senior and contributor finalists who have been elected throughout the years.

The Seniors Committee is comprised of nine members of the Hall of Fame’s Selection Committee who consider players whose careers ended more than 25 years ago. Through mail vote, the 2019 senior nominees were reduced to a final list of candidates. Then, on a rotating basis, five of the nine members meet at the Pro Football Hall of Fame to discuss each of the Seniors candidates and select the finalist. The five selectors for the Senior Selection on Friday are Ron Borges, Rick Gosselin, Jeff Legwold, Ira Miller and Dan Pompei.

Participating in contributors selection meeting next week will be Howard Balzer, Clark Judge, Peter King, Jim Trotter and Charean Williams. The Contributor category is for individuals who made outstanding contributions to professional football in capacities other than playing or coaching.

HOF Productions will have exclusive coverage of both committee meetings.

The next step in the Class of 2018 selection process comes on September 13 when the initial list of modern-era nominees is revealed. A few notable first-time eligible candidates include Ed Reed, Tony Gonzalez, Champ Bailey and London Fletcher.
