2020 Black College Football Hall of Fame Classic Called Off Amid COVID-19 Pandemic

As a public health precaution, the Pro Football Hall of Fame has canceled all events related to the 2020 Black College Football Hall of Fame Classic scheduled for Sept. 4-6, 2020.

“The health and safety of the Hall of Famers, players, fans and volunteers who make the Black College Football Hall of Fame Classic so special remains our top priority,” said David Baker, president and CEO of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. “The Pro Football Hall of Fame looks forward to having the Classic back in Canton in 2021 for a fun-filled weekend.”

The 2021 Black College Football Hall of Fame Classic will take place Labor Day weekend – Sept. 3-5, 2021 – featuring HBCU powerhouses Grambling State University and Tennessee State University. Grambling, of the Southwestern Athletic Conference, will take on Tennessee State, of the Ohio Valley Conference, on Sunday, Sept. 5 at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium.

“We thank Central State University and Howard University for their patience, professionalism and understanding as it relates to the 2020 Classic,” shared James “Shack” Harris, co-founder of the Black College Football Hall of Fame. “We look forward to welcoming fans from Grambling and Tennessee State next summer and making the 2021 Classic a great weekend.”

“The 2021 Black College Football Hall of Fame Classic promises to be an exciting weekend as the Tigers battle it out on the gridiron,” stated Doug Williams, co-founder of the Black College Football Hall of Fame and, like Williams, a standout player at Grambling.

Other anticipated events over the Classic weekend include a battle of the bands, campus tailgate, appearances by the Grambling and Tennessee State marching bands, golf outing and more. Additional details and ticket information will be announced at a later date.

BLACK COLLEGE FOOTBALL HALL OF FAME

The Black College Football Hall of Fame (BCFHOF) soon will have a permanent home at the Pro Football Hall of Fame (PFHOF) to tell the story of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). In addition to the Classic, the two organizations are working together on joint programs and events including expanded educational programming and special events at the PFHOF during Black History Month, a traveling exhibit and post-graduate internship opportunities for graduates of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).

BLACK COLLEGE FOOTBALL… THE ROAD TO EQUALITY

The BCFHOF will host a virtual event, Black College Football… The Road to Equality, hosted by Steve Wyche (NFL Network) and Charles Davis (NFL on CBS). An important and timely national event, it will feature poignant stories of struggle and triumph directly from some of the greatest HBCU football players. Additionally, journalist and author Samuel Freedom will discuss his bestselling book Breaking the Line: The Season in Black College Football that Transformed the Sport and Changed the Course of Civil Rights.

The goal for the event is to engage in the national discussion on social justice by sharing the history of black college football and its impact on civil rights as well as serving as a platform to raise funds and awareness for HBCUs and the BCFHOF.

The event will take place Wednesday, July 15, 2020 at 8:30 p.m. ET. There is no cost to participate and watch the event. Everyone is encourage to RSVP at www.BlackCollegeFootballHOF.org/equality.

2020 BCFHOF CLASSIC TICKET REFUNDS

The Pro Football Hall of Fame will refund original ticket purchasers for the total ticket amount as detailed below. Refunds will be processed within six to eight weeks.

Credit Card Purchases

  • Charges will be automatically refunded.
  • If a customer’s card has expired or been cancelled for any reason, a refund check will be issued to the original ticket purchaser.

Check or Cash Purchases

  • A refund check will be automatically issued.
