This past August, the Pro Football Hall of Fame, along with help from the National Football League, hosted the 20th Annual Play Football “First Play” event. This event, in conjunction with Enshrinement Week powered by Johnson Controls, helped kick off the 100th Season of the NFL.
This great event featured over 4,200 participants who lined the streets of Canton, forming a 3-mile long chain from downtown Canton where the NFL was founded to the front steps of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Play Football “First Play” that celebrates not only the community and the history of football but can teach everyone involved important life lessons. James Lofton, when speaking before the event said that “. . . when I think of the young people that are on this path, the First Play for them is important. Whether it’s the first step of the day or the first step into the classroom, that First Play is important. But, it’s also not the final play. The next day, the next week – there is another First Play.”
President and CEO of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, David Baker, summed up the event perfectly. “. . . like in every NFL Game there will be a fumble and when it fumbles, what I really love about this event, is that there is a Hall of Famer there to pick it up. To pick it up, give it to the kids and encourage them to move it on . . . huddle up, get the ball and keep it moving.”
