Summer Internship Program

The Pro Football Hall of Fame, located in Canton, Ohio, the birthplace of the National Football League, is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization with the Mission to “Honor the Heroes of the Game, Preserve its History, Promote its Values & Celebrate Excellence EVERYWHERE.”

The Pro Football Hall of Fame Summer Internship Program provides a meaningful and educational, hands-on experience in a variety of disciplines. Interns will have the opportunity to gain real world experience throughout the summer leading up to the annual Enshrinement Week Powered by Johnson Controls. 

In addition to departmental work, all interns are required to attend weekly OTAs which includes engagement with the Hall’s Management Team and other industry experts, networking, professional skill development and team building activities.

To be considered for the Summer Internship Program, students must have completed at least their sophomore year and be enrolled in a bachelor's, master's or doctorate degree program at a college or university during the internship or have just graduated in May of the year of their internship. All summer interns will receive a stipend to help offset the cost of living while interning at the Hall of Fame. If an applicant is seeking college credit, the Hall of Fame will work to meet all necessary requirements. Interns must be available for approximately 40 hours per week from Wednesday, June 1 through Wednesday, August 10, 2022 with extended hours expected during Enshrinement Week.

Note, the Summer Internship Program is subject to change as seen fit by the Pro Football Hall of Fame. 

Applications for the 2022 Pro Football Hall of Fame Summer Internship Program are now being accepted. The deadline to apply is December 15, 2021. Applicants cannot apply to more than three positions per internship cycle.

At this time, the following positions are available for the 2022 Summer Internship Program:

Archives & Football Information

The Archives intern will work closely with the Research, Archives, Communications and Digital Media Teams to produce content for the Hall of Fame’s website and social media platforms. They will assist in gathering information needed to fill requests from the many and varied users of the Hall of Fame’s Ralph Wilson, Jr. Pro Football Research and Preservation Center. They will be responsible for various research, writing and proofreading assignments for print and online. In addition to these day-to-day assignments, the intern can be expected to assist with other special projects as needed. In preparation for and during the annual Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Week, the Archives intern will work closely with the Communications Team on duties related to assisting the media with the coverage of the Hall of Fame Game and Enshrinements.

Candidates must have a basic knowledge of the National Football League and its history. In addition, the candidate must be willing to familiarize themselves with current events of the sport. This knowledge will make them better able to perform all duties of the internship. Also required, excellent communication (written and oral) skills, the ability to process and proofread materials efficiently, be quick to adapt, flexible and able to work well under deadline pressure. Candidates must be cordial and willing to work with the public.

There is one position available. Candidates majoring in museum studies, communications, journalism, public relations, sport management or a related field, preferred.

Communications

The Communications intern will work closely with the Communications Team in the development of internal and external communications as well as preparation for and during the annual Enshrinement Week Powered by Johnson Controls. Duties will be related to assisting media members with the coverage of the Hall of Fame Game and Enshrinements. The Communications intern will assist with the creation of communications materials such as news releases, internal company documents, external newsletters and emails, etc. They will also coordinate distribution of news releases to targeted media, enhance distribution lists, fact-check, assist with historical research and write feature articles for use on the Hall’s website. In addition to the above duties, the intern can be expected to assist with other special projects as needed.

Candidates must have excellent communication (written and oral) skills, an Ability to process and proofread materials efficiently, be quick to adapt, flexible, and able to work well under deadline pressure. Knowledge of professional football, sports business and media relations is essential. Candidates must be cordial and willing to work with the public.

There are two positions available. Candidates majoring in communications, journalism, public relations, sport management or a related field, preferred.

Graphic Design

The Graphic Design Intern will work closely with the Creative Team to provide creative ideas to develop, expand and maintain the Hall’s marketing channels. They will utilize and expand upon content templates to develop graphics for the Hall’s social media channels, assist in the development of planned and real-time content and design printed materials. They will also work with the overall Marketing Team in preparation for and during the annual Enshrinement Week Powered by Johnson Controls as well as assist in digital and traditional marketing efforts utilizing assets which may include social media, email and digital campaigns, print, direct mail, radio and television. Candidate should have strong organization skills and desire to learn as well as knowledge of professional football, sports business and marketing best practices.

Candidate should be proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign) as well as Microsoft Office. Additional skills in Adobe Premiere and After Effects are beneficial.

There is one position available. Candidates majoring in marketing, communications, graphic design or a related field are preferred.

Hospitality & Events

The Hospitality & Events Intern will assist staff with all aspects of event planning and implementation. This includes assisting with contracts and BEOs for clients and vendors, setting up and running private events as well as working closely with the team on any special projects that arise. They will also work on events and provide support to the entire events staff during the annual Enshrinement Week Powered by Johnson Controls. Candidate should have excellent communications skills, strong organizational and time management abilities and the desire to work in a team environment.

There are two positions available. Candidates majoring in marketing, communications, hospitality, tourism, event planning, operations management, sport management or a related field are preferred.

HOF Experiences

The HOF Experiences intern will assist with day-to-day responsibilities planning and executing events relating to Fan Packages for the annual Enshrinement Week Powered by Johnson Controls. They will be responsible for managing communication with select partners, assisting staff representatives by answering questions and performing service duties, attending on-site meetings with vendors and partners, assisting with all event logistics and performing other duties as assigned.

Ideal candidates have strong organizational skills, ability to multitask, professional drive and desire to work in a team environment. They also thrive in a fast-paces, deadline driven environment and have the ability to lift at least 30-50 pounds.

There are three positions available. Candidates majoring in marketing, hospitality, sport management or a related field, preferred.

Marketing

Interns on the Marketing Team will provide creative ideas in an effort to develop, expand and maintain the Hall’s marketing channels. They will work with the Marketing Team in preparation for and during the annual Enshrinement Week Powered by Johnson Controls. Duties will be related to assisting in promotional and activation opportunities on the campus and/or offsite, ticketing, event set-up and execution, sales efforts and other tasks as needed. Additionally, the Marketing interns will collect quantitative and qualitative data from marketing campaigns, distribute marketing materials and assist in digital and traditional marketing efforts utilizing assets which may include social media, email and digital campaigns, as well as traditional outlets including print, direct mail, radio and television.

Ideal candidates have excellent communication (written and oral) skills and are proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat with additional skills in multimedia software, such as InDesign and Photoshop. Candidates should have knowledge of professional football, sports business and marketing best practices as well as strong organizational skills, ability to multitask and desire to learn and work in a team environment.

There are two positions available. Candidates majoring in marketing, communications, graphic design, public relations, sport management or a related field, preferred.

Museum Collection

Interns on the Museum Collection Team will assist the Museum Services Team in research projects and collections care of artifacts and archival materials both in storage and on exhibit. They will also assist with the installation and maintenance of new exhibits and displays at the Pro Football Hall of Fame, accessioning of all new donations and assist in tracking all artifact movements and condition changes and help with legal documentation and condition reporting for historic artifacts including incoming and outgoing loans.

Candidates must have a basic knowledge of the National Football League and its history. In addition, the candidate must be willing to familiarize himself/herself with current events of the sport. This knowledge will make him/her better able to perform all duties of the internship. Attention to detail, strong organization skills, a positive attitude and self-motivation are essential.

There are two positions available. Candidates majoring in anthropology, American studies, museum studies or a related field, preferred.

Sponsorship

Sponsorship Team interns will support the overall Sponsorship Team in the business development process including sponsor prospect research and proposal creation. Interns will assist in ticket coordination, hotel room accommodations and transportation for key partners as well as facilitating communications to each sponsor attending Enshrinement Week Powered by Johnson Controls. They will help coordinate details for VIP hospitality events and assist in set up for each event and work closely with the Special Events Team on HOF Fun Fest details and coordination. Candidates must be able to communicate effectively with a wide range of individuals including VIP guests and Pro Football Hall of Fame partners as well as having strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.

There are three positions available. Candidates majoring in business administration, marketing, and/or sponsorship, sport administration/sport management or sales.

Volunteer Management

The Volunteer Management intern will assist staff in maintaining the online volunteer management database and volunteer programming as well as helping with volunteer communications, trainings and implementation of the service excellence program. The intern will work on specific projects such as digitizing training materials and presentations, handbooks, the Volunteer yearbook and training videos throughout the internship. They will also assist Museum Volunteers during the annual Enshrinement Week Powered by Johnson Controls. Candidate should possess excellent interpersonal skills especially experience with customer service, have great attention to detail, be well organized, have a positive attitude and be self-motivated. Experience volunteering or working for a historical organization is preferred.

Candidates should have general knowledge of professional football and be able to communicate effectively with a wide range of audiences.

There is one position available. Candidates majoring in history, public administration, non-profit management, human resource management or related field are preferred.

Youth & Education

The Youth & Education intern will work closely with the Youth & Education Team on camps, clinics and field trips which could include compiling group mailings, facilitating tours and drills, designing program schedules and presentations. They will compile information and data to support youth/education programs, update classroom activities listed in the Hall of Fame’s teacher activity guide and the NFL Club versions of this guide and develop new classroom activities aligned with common core/national standards of education that aim to integrate the history of the NFL with core curricular areas. Additionally, the intern will coordinate events during the Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Week Powered by Johnson Controls.   

Candidates should have general knowledge of professional football and be able to communicate effectively with a wide range of audiences.
