NFL Power Rankings Week 10: 49ers Reign Over League

11/6/2019

And then there was one.

After nine weeks of the NFL season, the San Francisco 49ers are the league’s sole undefeated team after the New England Patriots lost on Sunday night.

While few predicted the 49ers becoming the force that they have become in the NFC, there is no denying their legitimacy anymore.

But the top two spots weren’t the only ones that saw movement in this week’s Power Rankings. In fact, this is the most movement we’ve seen in several weeks, which is appropriate considering the results of many of Sunday’s games.

Here are your official Power Rankings for Week 10 of the 2019 NFL season.

Week 10 Power Rankings

1. San Francisco 49ers (8-0)

Last Week’s Ranking: 2

Week 10 Opponent: vs. Seattle Seahawks (7-2)

If Thursday night proved anything, it’s that the San Francisco 49ers are a complete team.

After being highlighted by their dominant defense performances for the first half of the season, the 49ers relied on quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo to keep them undefeated in their 28-25 win over the Arizona Cardinals.

Garoppolo threw for 317 yards and four touchdowns to propel San Francisco to victory and to their first week at the top of the NFL Power Rankings.

Emmanuel Sanders continued to shine on his new team, amassing 112 yards and one touchdown on seven catches.

If the 49ers offense can continue to play at the level that the defense set in the first half of the season, this team will be well on its way to the top seed in the NFC.

2. New England Patriots (8-1)

Last Week’s Ranking: 1

Week 10 Opponent: BYE WEEK

The New England Patriots finally fell, and it wasn’t pretty.

In front of a raucous away crowd in Baltimore, the Patriots suffered their first loss of the season on Sunday night, losing 37-20 to the Ravens.

After falling behind 17-0, the Patriots charged back to pull the game to 17-13 going into halftime. However, a Julian Edelman fumble in the third quarter shifted the momentum fully to Baltimore and the Ravens never looked back.

For the first time this season, the Patriots defense looked flawed. Their heralded linebacking corps couldn’t contain Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson and had no answer for the Ravens perfectly executed option attack.

As for the offense, Tom Brady just didn’t have enough answers for the Ravens defense. Edelman and new acquisition Mohamed Sanu both had 10 catches, but the offense couldn’t dig itself out of the hole it created in the second half.

With New England going into a bye week, Bill Belichick will have plenty to work on before their Week 11 matchup with the Eagles.

3. New Orleans Saints (7-1)

Last Week’s Ranking: 3

Week 10 Opponent: vs. Atlanta Falcons (1-7)

There’s not much to say about the Saints this week coming off a bye other than Drew Brees got a weekend off to have his injured right thumb heal a little bit more.

New Orleans is currently the front-runner in the NFC South but will have to keep up the pace they’ve been playing at with Christian McCaffrey and the Carolina Panthers soaring back into division contention.

4. Baltimore Ravens (6-2)

Last Week’s Ranking: NR

Week 10 Opponent: at Cincinnati Bengals (0-8)

Lamar Jackson is the real deal and he proved it against the best defense in the NFL.

In the Ravens 37-20 victory over the New England Patriots on Sunday night, Jackson threw for 163 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 61 yards and two more scores.

The performance by Jackson not only helped the Ravens knock off the AFC’s last remaining undefeated team, but also vaulted the second-year quarterback into the MVP discussion.

In total, the Ravens amassed 210 rushing yards, helping them continue their reign as the top rushing team in the league. Baltimore is averaging a league-best 204.9 rushing yards per game through eight games.

5. Seattle Seahawks (7-2)

Last Week’s Ranking: NR

Week 10 Opponent: at San Francisco 49ers (8-0)

There’s no denying that Russell Wilson is currently the best player in the league.

The MVP-front runner put together his best game of the season on Sunday, throwing for 378 yards and five touchdowns in the Seahawks 40-34 overtime win over Tampa Bay.

Wilson currently has 22 touchdowns and one interception on the season, becoming the first player in league history to be playing at that efficiency through nine games. Seattle will go as far as Wilson can take them and right now it looks like the sky is the limit.

The biggest test of the season is on the horizon, though, as Wilson and the Seahawks travel to San Francisco for a date with the 49ers next week. It’ll be the league’s best player against the league’s best team in a matchup that will certainly shake up these Power Rankings.
