All five teams in the Week 14 Power Rankings hold the same record, yet there is still a hierarchy when breaking down the best of the best.
This past week saw two of the top teams in the league go head-to-head when the Ravens and 49ers met in Baltimore and to nobody’s surprise it took a last-second effort to propel the winning team to victory.
The fight for supremacy atop the league continues into Week 14 as only four regular season games remain on the schedule for each team.
Here are your Power Rankings for Week 14 of the 2019 NFL season.
1. Baltimore Ravens (10-2)
Last Week’s Ranking: 1
Week 14 Opponent: at Buffalo Bills (9-3)
The Ravens are the now the No.1 seed in the AFC thanks to a 20-17 victory over the San Francisco 49ers in miserable conditions.
The win, the Ravens’ eighth in a row, forced Lamar Jackson and company to dig deep and pull out the win. Jackson’s passing stats were nothing more than pedestrian, as he threw for 105 yards and a touchdown on 14-for-23 passing.
But it was Jackson’s legs that helped propel Baltimore past the NFC’s most stout defense. Jackson rushed for 101 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries in the win. Most importantly, though, was his ability to lead the offense down the field with six minutes remaining to set up Justin Tucker for a 49-yard game-winning field goal as time expired.
This win may go down as another within a winning streak, but most importantly it showcased the Ravens ability to adjust when their instant offense isn’t cooking at full steam. They had to lock down and grind out a win for the first time in over a month.
2. San Francisco 49ers (10-2)
Last Week’s Ranking: 2
Week 14 Opponent: at New Orleans Saints (10-2)
If there’s one thing that has become obvious this season, it’s that the 49ers are a difficult team to defeat.
It took a Monday Night classic for the Seahawks to hand San Francisco its first loss of the season and a gritty home performance by the Ravens this weekend to prevent the 49ers from escaping Baltimore with a win.
But there is some room for concern. With the defeat, San Francisco moves back to the No.5 seed thanks to their loss to Seattle last month.
The 49ers playoff positioning will likely come down to one man — Jimmy Garoppolo. The defense has proved itself worthy of praise, but Garoppolo will need to be make those game-winning plays that he failed to do against the Ravens in the next four weeks.
Mark your calendars for Week 17 at Seattle — it could be a game to determine one of the NFC’s byes.
3. Seattle Seahawks (10-2)
Last Week’s Ranking: 4
Week 14 Opponent: at Los Angeles Rams (7-5)
Seattle playing on Monday Night Football comes with the promise of an exciting game.
The Seahawks survived a late surge from Minnesota to defeat the Vikings, 37-30, at CenturyLink Field and jump into the top spot of the NFC West.
Russell Wilson continued his brilliant season, throwing for 240 yards and two touchdowns while backfield companions Chris Carson and Rashaad Penny complimented his efforts with 176 rushing yards.
The Seahawks are now in a prime position to claim one of the NFC’s bye week spots, especially with an easier final four games than San Francisco, but nothing is guaranteed.
4. New England Patriots (10-2)
Last Week’s Ranking: 3
Week 14 Opponent: vs. Kansas City Chiefs (8-4)
For three quarters on Sunday night, the Patriots offense looked dead in the water.
Tom Brady produced his third consecutive lackluster performance in as many weeks, raising questions about the 42-year-old’s ability to produce anything special with his offense plagued with injuries and inexperience.
But at 10-2, the Patriots still control their own destiny. While they lost their grip on the No.1 seed in the AFC this week, they still have a clear route to a bye week, even if it involved contests with the Chiefs and surging Bills in the next two weeks.
5. New Orleans Saints (10-2)
Last Week’s Ranking: 5
Week 14 Opponent: vs. San Francisco 49ers (10-2)
The Saints finally got back their worst loss of the season.
A 26-18 Thanksgiving Day win over the Falcons doesn’t sound overly impressive for the juggernaut Saints, but it does redeem them after failing against a weak Atlanta side last month.
The win also clinched New Orleans third straight NFC South title, confirming what we already knew about the Saints playoff hopes in the back half of the season.
While the top of the NFC is extremely crowded with double-digit win teams, the Saints may have lucked out by having the easiest remaining games of the bunch. Sure, a date with the 49ers this weekend should prove dangerous, but a string of Colts-Titans-Panthers to end the regular season could be enough to get them the coveted bye week.
