Jan's picks for Week 13

THIS WEEK’S HALL OF FAMER: Jan Stenerud, Class of 1991
Jan Stenerud was born in Norway and never played football until his junior year of college. He went on to have an outstanding career with the Kansas City Chiefs, Green Bay Packers, and Minnesota Vikings from 1967 to 1979. Stenerud scored 100 or more points seven times and had 17 field goals of 50 yards or longer. A six-time Pro Bowler, he is the only “pure” placekicker enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Today, Jan has retired to Colorado Springs but does some consulting work for HMTB, a company in Kansas City that designs sports facilities. Jan had served as the company’s Director of Business Development for 20 years. He also spends a few months in warm weather climates so he can engage in his passion of playing golf. Jan currently has a 4-handicap.

Jan’s picks for Week 13:

Naturally, the best games this weekend in my mind will be those of my three former teams.

Bronzed Bust
Baltimore at Green Bay – The Ravens are a tough team, especially on defense. However, I still think the Packers will have the upper hand. Any game played in Lambeau Field is special and Monday night only adds to it. I think when you examine the overall package; Green Bay is a little better team.

Gold Jacket
Denver at Kansas City – Although Denver has had a better year, I’m picking Kansas City solely because of their record at home in December over the years. Whether the Chiefs have been good or bad, they always play well at home when the cold weather rolls in. There’s a lot of pride on the line for them this weekend and so I think it’ll be a very emotional game for them.

Hall of Fame Ring
Minnesota at Arizona – If Kurt Warner plays, he can be pretty dangerous but the I still think the Vikings have just too much. Minnesota has that 40-year-old QB who might just be having his best season ever. Add to Favre a great running game that features a great back and offensive line and they’re tough to beat. The defense has been playing very well also. Right now, I’d take Minnesota against anybody and that includes the Saints and the Colts!

Starting with Thursday’s game in Toronto, here’s who else I’m taking this weekend:

A tough one but I’ll take the Bills over the Jets.
Bears will beat Rams
Carolina over Tampa Bay
Steelers win will at home against the Raiders
Saints go to 12-0 with a win over Washington
Patriots will beat the Dolphins
Philadelphia will win on the road in Atlanta
Colts stay perfect with a win vs. the Titans.
Bengals over Detroit
Houston over Jacksonville
San Diego will win in Cleveland
Giants over the Cowboys
San Francisco will beat Seattle
