Jon Kendle – Researcher
A big part of Jon’s work responsibilities include overseeing the flow of information into the Hall’s football archives. He makes sure that our files are comprehensive and up-to-date. As such, he’ll use this space to share some of the latest news he stumbles across related to our Hall of Famers.
I am so lucky to be able to write that football is my job. Every day when I enter the Archives and Information Center inside the Pro Football Hall of Fame I count my blessings that the work I do on a day-to-day basis revolves around my passion. When I’m not watching, writing about, researching or playing football with my son in the backyard I usually turn to my second favorite hobby, which is food.
This weekend was no different. Between scoring drives (which seemed to be every three to four minutes) during NBC’s Sunday Night Football broadcast of the New Orleans Saints 40-20 victory over the Oakland Raiders, I changed the channel to watch the Food Network’s Great Food Truck Race. And to my surprise, I ended up seeing a very familiar face when Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback and Denver Broncos’ Executive Vice President of Football Operations John Elway made an appearance on the show’s third episode of the season.
Elway was enlisted by chef and host Tyler Florence to deliver the “speed bump” to each of the eight trucks as they prepped to open their trucks for the challenge. John tells each of the eight remaining food truck teams comprised of three individuals that only one of them can run the truck (which entails taking orders, making the food and serving the customers) while the other two sit on the bench (something we all know John never had to do).
The nine-time Pro Bowler who led the Broncos to 47 fourth quarter comebacks and two Super Bowl championships made the announcement from the dining room of Elway’s Restaurant in Downtown Denver www.elways.com. There is another Elway’s located in Cherry Creek, Colorado, and John will be opening a third restaurant at the Lodge at Vail in November.
The website describes Elway’s as a place where friends, families and business professionals could celebrate life’s victories, or just unwind at the end of a busy day. It’s also where an ever-changing menu offers the best of the best, accompanied by a fabulous wine list. All delivered in a contemporary atmosphere much like Colorado itself – adventurous, fun and always alive.
After looking over the menu it looks like ski season can’t come fast enough. That is, of course, only after I take care of my football appetite first.
