Dennis Green, the former head coach of the Minnesota Vikings and Arizona Cardinals, died Thursday night at the age of 67.

In a statement released by his family, “Dennis passed away last night from complications of cardiac arrest. His family was by his side and he fought hard.”

Stemming from the legendary coaching tree of Gold Jacket Bill Walsh, Green spent 17 years as a coach in the NFL.

It wasn’t long after coaching special teams and wide receivers for the 49ers that Green earned the opportunity to command his troops. He was named the Vikings head coach in 1992.

Noted for his most successful season with the Vikings, Green’s team was on the doorstep of the Super Bowl and wrapped up the 1998 NFL season 15-1.

Green finished his NFL career with a 113-94 regular season record. The win total placed Green 33rd on the NFL’s all-time list.
