2001 Student Art Contest
Every year, thousands of visitors travel to Canton, Ohio to take part in the annual Enshrinement Celebration. One of the first things they see when they arrive in Canton is a piece of artwork in their hotel room.
Local students were instructed to put their artistic talents into a drawing to welcome out-of-town visitors to Stark County (where the Hall of Fame is located) during the 2001 Hall of Fame Festival. Each of the drawings will be placed in area hotel rooms to welcome those visitors in August. The only criteria for the artwork were for the students to draw pictures that depicted football activities, the Pro Football Hall of Fame, or Pro Football Hall of Fame Festival activities.
Nearly 3,000 fourth and fifth graders from throughout Stark County participated in the program. In all, classes of 142 teachers from 57 schools and 17 districts took part in the educational-based art contest. First, second, and third-place prizes were awarded to three area youths. Eleven-year old Kaylee Jones of Jackson Middle School won first place in the contest. For her winning entry, Kaylee won a replica autograph football with each of the 2001 Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinees signatures in a collector's case with an engraved plaque. Also, she received four tickets to The NFL Experience, the football theme park that will make its return to Canton during the Hall of Fame Festival celebration in August. In addition, Kaylee and her classmates were treated to a pizza party. This marked the second straight year that Kaylee drew a winning picture in the contest. She won second place honors in last year's contest.
Second place was awarded to 10-year-old Robbie Hafner from Marlboro Elementary School. Kaylee's classmate Amanda Larke won third place honors for her drawing. The three winning entries will be on display in the Hall of Fame during the Pro Football Hall of Fame Festival.
