The League did not have an official Championship game during its first 13 years of existence; therefore, the League champion was determined by best regular season record. In the 1920 season, no official standings were maintained so the Akron Pros were awarded the championship in a meeting on April 30, 1921. In 1932, the Chicago Bears and Portsmouth Spartans finished regularly scheduled play tied for first; the Bears won a playoff game, 9-0, which counted in the regular standings. Below are the champions of the League during those 13 years. |

Don Shula's record victory
When the Miami Dolphins defeated the Philadelphia Eagles on November 14, 1993, one of pro football's most cherished record was erased from the record book.
Playoff Results: 1940s
Throughout the 1940s, the NFL mainly consisted of just 10 teams (though only eight competed in 1943) in two Divisions: the Eastern and Western. Chicago was the capital of the pro football world during this period.
