Student Art Contest Winner

A North Nimishillen Elementary (Louisville City Schools) student may very well be a future artist.  Artwork by Kali Newcomer, a fifth grader, earned first place honors in the 2009 Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Student Art Contest.  

Approximately 1,300 fourth and fifth graders from Stark County participated in the contest, which is a part of the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Educational Outreach Program.  In all, classes of 84 teachers from 34 schools and 15 districts took part in the educational-based art contest.  Students were instructed to put their artistic talents into a drawing to welcome out-of-town visitors to Stark County during the 2009 Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival.  Each of the drawings will be placed in area hotel rooms to welcome those visitors in August.  The only criteria for the artwork were for the students to make drawings that depicted football activities, the Pro Football Hall of Fame, or Pro Football Hall of Fame Festival activities.

{GALLERY}For her winning entry, Kali won a replica autographed football that includes the signatures of each member of the Class of 2009 – Bob Hayes, Randall McDaniel, Bruce Smith, Derrick Thomas, Ralph Wilson, Jr., and Rod Woodson – in a collector’s case with an engraved plaque and she also received four admission tickets to the Pro FootballHall of Fame.  In addition, Kali and her classmates in Tonnie Stevenson’s class at North Mimishillen Elementary were treated to a pizza party and an assortment of Hall of Fame gift items.  Kali, 11, is the daughter of William Newcomer and Lisa Ramey.

Second and third place prizes were also awarded.  Marta Fratczak, 11, of Stausser Elementary School in Jackson (teacher, Greg Bukosky) earned second place.  For her efforts, she received a mini Hall of Fame Helmet in a collector’s case, four tickets to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and an assortment of Hall of Fame gift items for her entire class.  She is the daughter of Agnes Fratczak.

Annie Mallamaci, a 10-year-old at Northwood Elementary in North Canton (teacher, Mark Holben) won third place this year.  Annie, daughter of Michael and Tracey Mallamaci, won a mini Hall of Fame Helmet in a collector’s case, four tickets to the Pro Football Hall of Fame and an assortment of Hall of Fame gift items for her classmates.

The three winning entries will be on display in the Hall of Fame throughout the Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement celebration.
