Did you know?
The Ravens were formed in 1996 as a new franchise. Part of the deal was that the team was stocked with former Cleveland Browns players and also included future draft picks. One such pick was obtained by Cleveland in a trade with San Francisco a year earlier. That ended up giving the Ravens two first rounders in 1996. They snagged Jonathan Ogden fourth overall and then with the acquired 26th pick they drafted Miami linebacker Ray Lewis. The foundation for their future Super Bowl championship team was in place.

Quotable:

"We're starting to build the defense again," explained Ozzie Newsome (then the Ravens Senior VP of Football Operations. Today he is Executive VP/General Manger) after the team selected Miami safety Ed Reed in the first round of the 2002 NFL Draft.

"Every time they needed a play to be made, Ed made it. Every time they needed a fire put out, Ed Reed put it out. He'll be a presence in the huddle," Newsome continued.

Since that time he has put his name all over the NFL Record Book and even has a number of his jerseys and shoes in the Hall of Fame in Canton. Search "Ed Reed" on our site for more on what he's accomplished in his career.
