HOF Artifact of the Week
Pictured is Walt Garrison’s Dallas Cowboys helmet that he gave to George Allen in honor of a historic play that both were involved in while Garrison played for the Cowboys and Allen was coaching the Washington Redskins.
On October 8, 1973 on fourth down with less than 30 seconds left in the game, Garrison caught a pass from Craig Morton and was tackled at the goal line by Ken Houston to preserve a 14-7 victory. Redskins fans regard the play as the most famous tackle in Washington history.
Our weekly artifacts and other unique items are featured daily in our docent presentations for visitors of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Plan your visit to the Hall to learn more about the collection in our archives.
