HOF Artifact of the Week

These low-cut shoes were worn in Super Bowl I by Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Fred “the Hammer” Williamson during the Chiefs 35-10 loss to the Green Bay Packers. Williamson began his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1960 before joining the Oakland Raiders the following season.

While with the Raiders he was a three-time Pro Bowler (1961-1963) and two time All-Pro (1962-1963). Williamson then joined the Kansas City Chiefs (1965-1967). He retired with the Chiefs franchise in 1967. Over the course of his eight-year career, Williamson had 36 interceptions returning two of them for touchdowns.

Williamson went on to Hollywood in 1968 becoming a highly successful actor. He has recorded 129 IMDB (Movie, Television and Video) acting credits. One of his earliest acting credits is an episode on the original Star Trek television series. His most prominent roles were in the 1970 movie Mash and the 1996 vampire movie From Dusk till Dawn.
