After a Thanksgiving Day performance that totaled 139 scrimmage yards and two touchdowns, San Francisco 49ers’ running back Christian McCaffrey became only the second player in NFL history with at least 16 scrimmage touchdowns in a season with two different teams, joining Pro Football Hall of Famer RANDY MOSS.
With his second rushing touchdown in the second quarter against the Seattle Seahawks, McCaffrey’s season touchdown total reached 16 (11 rushing, five receiving).
In 2019, McCaffrey found the end zone 19 times (15 rushing, four receiving) for the Carolina Panthers, earning first-team All-Pro honors and a nod to the Pro Bowl.
McCaffrey also became the fifth player in history and first in 48 years with at least 10 rushing touchdowns and five touchdown receptions in his team's first 11 games of a season, joining Hall of Famers JIM BROWN (1962) and O.J. SIMPSON (1975) as well as Abner Haynes (1962) and Chuck Foreman (1975).
The game-worn gloves and cleats used by McCaffrey are now on display in the Hall of Fame’s “Pro Football Today Gallery.”
(Note: Moss surpassed 16 touchdowns three times, with the first coming in his rookie season (17 in 1998). He would score 17 again for Minnesota in 2003 and set the record for receiving touchdowns in a season with 23 for the New England Patriots in 2007.)
