The 2024 Black College Football Hall of Fame Classic game restarted at about 7:30 p.m. after inclement weather delayed play in the third quarter Sunday.
Virginia State University was ahead 23-7 over Benedict College with 9:22 remaining in the third quarter when stormy conditions, including lightning in the area, forced officials to stop play.

Virginia State University will take the field in Canton against Benedict College in the 2024 Black College Football Hall of Fame Classic on Sept. 1. The matchup of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) will be the third between these schools, with Virginia State claiming victory in 2012 and Benedict winning the matchup in 2013.
“The Black College Football Hall of Fame Classic weekend is the premier showcase for all of Northeast Ohio to celebrate the excellence that resides at America’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities,” said Pro Football Hall of Fame Chief Relationship Officer Adrian Allison. “We are excited to welcome Benedict College and Virginia State University’s students, staff, alumni and fans as we honor the legacies of the members of the Black College Football Hall of Fame. This year’s Classic, like the previous four, promises to be a fun-filled weekend capped by a championship-caliber football game.”
