Raiders’ Brock Bowers shatters rookie records

During Week 14, on Dec. 8, Bowers broke the record previously held by Sam LaPorta of the Detroit Lions for most receptions (86 in 2023) by a rookie tight end. On Dec. 29 in Week 17, Bowers surpassed Hall of Famer MIKE DITKA (1,076 in 1961) for most receiving yards by a rookie tight end as the Raiders defeated the New Orleans Saints, 25-10. In that game, Bowers also exceeded Los Angeles Rams receiver Puka Nacua (105 in 2023) for most receptions by a rookie in NFL history.
Bowers, a former University of Georgia Bulldog, extended each of those first-year marks by finishing the season with 112 receptions for 1,194 yards. He scored five touchdowns during the season.
The Pro Football Hall of Fame has received the gloves, shoes and helmet Bowers wore during the final week of the season while capping those records. Additionally, the Hall received the footballs Bowers caught surpassing Ditka’s and Nacua’s previous records.
The items have been placed on display in the Hall of Fame’s “Pro Football Today Gallery.”
