Richard James, an avid supporter of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, has won the Predict the Class of 2009 Contest. James won the grand prize of a $1,000 shopping spree in the Hall of Fame’s online store.

“This is tremendous, it really is,” commented James, a fan of the San Francisco 49ers since the 1950s, upon learning the news.

James of Dayton, NJ once lived in Ohio for a brief period and attended his first Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement with his son in 2001. He hasn’t missed a ceremony since that time. He also shared that he purchased his tickets to this year’s enshrinement ceremony a couple of weeks ago.

The Class of 2009 – Bob Hayes, Randall McDaniel, Bruce Smith, Derrick Thomas, Ralph Wilson and Rod Woodson – were elected during the Pro Football Hall of Fame's annual selection meeting that was held in Tampa last Saturday. The class will be formally enshrined during the ceremony held in Fawcett Stadium on Saturday, August 8, 2009 at 7 PM ET.

The Predict the Class of 2009 Contest launched on January 6th in conjunction with the announcement of the 17 finalists for this year’s class. The contest ended on Saturday, January 31, 2009 when the Hall of Fame selection meeting started.  Entrants logged on from all 50 states in the U.S. as well as from Australia, Canada, Denmark, Hungary, Italy, Lebanon, Mexico, Netherlands, Puerto Rico, Romania, and the United Kingdom.
