Hall of Famers Published on : 11/9/2011

Only 267 bronze busts reside in the Hall of Fame Gallery inside the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio. They "immortalize" the greatest players, coaches, and contributors that this game has produced. Each week during the 2011 NFL Season we will sit down for a Q&A with one of these legends.

Dan Fouts, Class of 1993

HOBBIES
Well, I enjoy playing golf I guess. And, basically my family is my hobby.

LAST BOOK YOU’VE READ:
I’m reading the “Anti-Cancer” by Dr. David Servan-Schreiber.

FAVORITE MUSIC
It just depends on my mood. Sometimes it’s blues, sometimes it’s country, sometimes it’s classic rock.

FAVORITE MOVIE:
“The Water Boy.” I was in it!

FAVORITE FOOD:
Salmon.

FAVORITE NFL TEAM AS A CHILD:
49ers. My dad was the voice of the 49ers. I grew up watching 49ers games at Kezar Stadium in the press box. I was lucky enough to graduate to being a ball boy on the field. It was a great experience all the way around.

FAVORITE NFL STADIUM OTHER THAN JACK MURPHY STADIUM:
None of the them.

WHY DID YOU PICK NO. 14?
When they threw it to me, I caught it.

DID YOU HAVE ANY PRE-GAME SUPERSTITIONS?
No.

WHAT’S BETTER ABOUT THE NFL TODAY THAN WHEN YOU PLAYED?
Well, for the players, it’s more money. I think the thing that makes it more exciting now is the acceptance of the passing game and the Don Coryell philosophies of throwing the ball.

Watch: Dan Fouts recalls his favorite NFL moments.

WHAT WAS BETTER ABOUT THE NFL DURING YOUR CAREER THAN THE GAME TODAY?
Having Don Coryell as my coach.

FAVORITE ATHLETE EVER IN ANY SPORT:
Willie Mays.

ONE PERSON WHO INFLUENCED YOU MOST IN LIFE:
My father.

TOUGHEST PLAYER YOU FACED:
Too many to mention. I would never give any one individual the credit.

WHAT MAKES YOU MOST PROUD ABOUT YOUR HALL OF FAME CAREER?
Just the association with my teammates and having the chance to play for Don Coryell.

WHEN IF EVER DID YOU REALIZE YOU MAY SOMEDAY MAKE THE HALL OF FAME?
The day the phone rang and said I did.

HOW DID YOU LEARN OF YOUR HALL OF FAME ELECTION?
I was in my mother’s living room. There was tremendous elation. It’s almost too great to put into words. I still find it hard to believe at times.

WAS DON CORYELL YOUR ONLY CHOICE AS A PRESENTER?
Yup. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t have been inducted.

IF YOU COULD DO YOUR ENSHRINEMENT SPEECH OVER TODAY, WHAT WOULD YOU SAY DIFFERENTLY?
Nothing.

WHAT’S YOUR GREATEST ACCOMPLISHMENT OFF THE FOOTBALL FIELD?
I don’t know, being the father of four. But, accomplishments are for someone else to decide. My life is not over yet so it’s a tough question for me.
