"The archives is actually the ideal place for these items from a preservation aspect," commented Jason Aikens, the Hall’s collections curator. "In reality, the best thing for our mementos is for them not to see the light of day. But, nobody learns anything from them unless we share them with the public." ITEM: Christian Okoye’s jersey ACQUIRED: November 12, 1990 DESCRIPTION: The Kansas City Chiefs jersey worn by Christian Okoye during the 1989 NFL season DONATED BY: Kansas City Chiefs Running back Christian Okoye wore this jersey during the 1989 season when he was named the AFC’s Offensive Player of the Year. He won the rushing title that year by a mere 10 yards over Hall of Famer Barry Sanders. Okoye’s season total of 1,480 yards was a team record at the time and remains the third most (behind Priest Holmes totals in 2002 and 2001) in Chiefs history.
