Hall of Fame center Mike Webster passed away this morning at the age of 50. Originally, the Steelers' fifth-round pick in 1974, Webster became a full-time starter in his third season. He then played every game for 10 consecutive years and was the Steelers' captain nine seasons.

"We at the Pro Football Hall of Fame were stunned and saddened by the news of the passing of Mike Webster," commented Executive Director John Bankert. "Mike's toughness and unswerving dedication to excellence, often hidden by his quiet demeanor, inspired all who knew him. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Webster family."

A veteran of nine Pro Bowls, six AFC championship games, and four Super Bowls.

Webster was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame on January 25, 1997 and inducted six months later on July 26.
