Each Wednesday throughout the 2005 NFL season, Profootballhof.com examines a current NFL record.

Just five players in the history of the National Football League have ever returned two kickoffs for touchdowns in the same game.

Tim Brown

The first time this occurred came on November 6, 1966 when Timmy Brown of the Philadelphia Eagles ran back a pair of kickoffs for touchdowns in the Eagles’ 24-23 win over the Dallas Cowboys. Both of his TD returns came in the first half – a 93-yarder in the first quarter followed by a 90-yard kickoff return in the second quarter.

Travis Williams of the Green Bay Packers returned the opening kickoff 87 yards against the Cleveland Browns on November 12, 1967 . He added his second TD – on an 85-yard return – later in the quarter as the Packers jumped out to a 35-7 lead after one period of play. The Packers won the game, 55-7.

Ron Brown, an Olympic track star, was electrifying as he ran back the opening kickoff 98 yards to get the Rams on their way to a 34-17 win over the Green Bay Packers on November 24, 1985 . Brown scored his second TD on an 86-yard kickoff return in the second quarter.

New Orleans Saints’ Tyrone Hughes returned a kickoff 92 yards for a TD in the second quarter and a 98-yarder in the third quarter against the Los Angeles Rams on October 23, 1994. The Saints won the game, 37-34.

Chad Morton of the New York Jets ran a kickoff back 98 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter of the game against the Buffalo Bills on September 8, 2002 . His second score was even more spectacular when he returned the opening kickoff of overtime 96 yards to give the Jets a 37-31 win over their division rivals.
