Each Wednesday throughout the 2005 NFL season, Profootballhof.com examines a current NFL record.

The San Diego Chargers defensive backfield was especially busy during the 1961 season. In just its second season of existence, the American Football League was gaining a reputation as being “pass happy.”

That was just fine with the Chargers’ defense as the unit combined to pick off 49 passes during the season. That pro football mark has stood for more than 40 years.

Here is the breakdown of the interceptions by player.
