Parker on cover of 1941 program

Ace Parker was featured on the program cover of a Brooklyn Dodgers preseason game in 1941. Parker was the NFL’s MVP the season prior. Unfortunately for Brooklyn, Parker did not play in the contest as he was recovering from a broken ankle sustained while playing pro baseball in the spring.

The Dodgers certainly could have use Parker’s services that night as they faced the defending champion Chicago Bears. Even without their star quarterback, Brooklyn would have beaten the Bears had fellow Hall of Famer George McAfee not returned a punt 75 yards for a touchdown with 37 seconds to play to give Chicago the 14-9 win.

Here is the program cover and a profile on Ace Parker from that night’s game program.
