Wilcox brings good luck to Ducks

Pro Football Hall of Fame linebacker Dave Wilcox served as the honorary captain for the University of Oregon during the pre-game coin toss at the inaugural Pac-12 Championship Game on Dec. 2, 2011. Wilcox, dressed in the Oregon coat and hat on the left (photo below), must have been good luck for the Ducks as they downed UCLA 49-31 to win the title and advance to the Rose Bowl.

Wilcox starred for Oregon before he was drafted into the NFL by the San Francisco 49ers and by the Houston Oilers of the AFL in 1964. He signed with San Francisco and embarked on a career that spanned through the 1974 season. Wilcox earned the nickname "The Intimidator" for his aggressive style of play and is regarded as one of the premier outside linebackers of that era. He was named to seven Pro Bowls and elected to the Hall of Fame in 2000.
