Youth football team raises money for World Youth Football Championship
A youth football team in the East Bay has been chosen to compete on a national stage.
The Concord Cobras are one of only a handful of teams invited to attend the World Youth Football Championship in Canton, Ohio, home of the Pro-Football Hall of Fame, from Dec. 12 to 16.
This will be an expensive trip and they are hoping for some help covering costs.
The Cobras finished the regular season with a 9-2 record and also played in the NFL Hall of Fame Youth National Championship.
The team is a non-profit youth football team for kids five to 14-years-old.
The Cobras coach Jerry Reese says that for many of these kids this is a once in a lifetime opportunity for these kids to bond in this type of situation and learn how to travel.
Cameron Caycho has played for the Cobras for six years.
Although the team had a winning season this year, it hasn't always been that way and he would love to get a win on the national stage.
The team estimates it will cost about $18-thousand to cover expenses, which includes bringing a tutor for the kids so they don't fall behind at school.
Hoping to raise the needed funds, the team has set up a GoFundMe page.
As of Wednesday evening, they had raised about $7-thousand and their goal is $15-thousand.
