Updated: 02/25/10 to include ticket information.

A pair of 2009 division champions will kick off the 2010 NFL preseason when the Dallas Cowboys take on the Cincinnati Bengals in the Pro Football Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio on Sunday, August 8, the Hall of Fame and NFL announced today.

The game will be televised nationally on NBC’s “Sunday Night Football” at 8:00 PM ET.

The Bengals are appearing in their first Hall of Fame Game since 1988, while the Cowboys last appeared in 1999 with a team that included Class of 2010 enshrinee Emmitt Smith.

The Hall of Fame Game will follow an enshrinement of the Hall’s Class of 2010 on Saturday, August 7.  In addition to Smith, the 2010 Hall of Fame Class includes Russ Grimm, Rickey Jackson, Dick LeBeau, Floyd Little, John Randle, and Jerry Rice.

Smith, the NFL’s all-time leading rusher with 18,355 yards, played for the Cowboys from 1990-2002 and scored a record 164 rushing touchdowns, won four NFL rushing titles and gained 1,000 yards in a record 11 straight seasons.

LeBeau, who is being enshrined as a cornerback for the Detroit Lions from 1959-1972, and the current defensive coordinator of the Pittsburgh Steelers, spent 18 seasons coaching in Cincinnati (1980-1991, 1997-2002) including three as the head coach of the Bengals (2000-02).

Tickets go on sale on Tuesday, March 16 at 11:00 a.m. ET.

to Mike and anyone else that thinks the Hall of Fame game is an AFC vs NFC game need to check the facts before they look really stupid when they post something, because oh yeah i think it was LAST YEAR when the bills and the titans played in the HOF game and oh yeah they are both AFC teams. so it is possible for the cowboys and the niners to play.

What the Heck!!!! Only a complete loss of a brain would not put the niers and the cowboys together!! the NFL is all about making money and those two teams will have 80% of the fans there!! I have already got tickets to the events on saturday but I will not be attending the game on sunday due to this simple fact. what a total mistake by some people that need to get fired!!!!

Yeehaw and Woohoo! Since moving to this are 18 months, I have been deprived of my Cowboys football. As a former season ticket holder, it's not as much fun watching them on TV than in the stadium. Congrats Emmitt...well done and I can't wait see my Boys play Aug. 8th!!! How 'bout them Cowboys!!

I don't know how the teams are chosen, but how do you not do 49ers vs. Cowboys? There are going to be so many Niner fans there (myself included). Why the Bengals?
